The battery (which is located on the motherboard)is an important part of a computer. The purpose of this little battery (or CMOS battery) is to save all of your computers Bios settings, so you dont have to reset your bios, time and date every time you turn your computer on, or if you were to lose power. Most of these batteries are coin cell (or button)batteries, which rarely ever need to be replaced, many older computers have batteries which can not be replaced or need to be resoldered, in which case it is best to get a new motherboard.

The battery
Many times when one of these batteries die, you will notice that your systems date keeps resetting itself to the same time and date every time it is turned on. This happens because there is no power in the computer to save the time or any other data that may be stored in the BIOS/CMOS, causing the system to reset to its origional default settings.
