The floppy drive on a computer is a slotted drive which takes flat, square shaped disks called floppy disks. With new ways to transferr data (such as CDs), floppy drives are becoming less popular, some new computers dont even have a floppy drive.
The most common floppy drive accepts a disk that is flat, and the disk holds only about 1.44 MB (megabytes) of data, which compared to a CD (at 650 or 700 MB) or a DVD (at 4.7 Gigabytes)is a very small amount of data, and is insufficient in many of todays applications.
