The expansion slots on a computer are very important. They allow you to add other components to your computer, such as a modem or video card. There are several different types of expansion slots.
PCI SLOTS - These are probably the most common slots for a computer to have. They can accomidate just about anything from a modem or sound card to a video card. The PCI slot is generally a 32 bit transferr slot (transferring at 132 MB/s). They can also be expanded to 64 bit (264 MB/s).
ISA SLOTS - These are pretty much the older, slower version of the pci slots above, they are usually much longer than a PCI slot. It is an 8 or 16 bit card. These are usually found in much older computer systems.
AGP SLOTS - Short for Advanced Graphics Port, The AGP slot is used primarily for Video cards, the AGP slot allows a much faster performance for your video card.AGP slots come with speeds the higher the number the faster the slot, thus the faster of a video card it can take. speeds:1x,2x,4x,8x
PCI EXPRESS - This is a new expansion slot, Also used for video, It is supposed to be twice as fast as an AGP slot. Looks kind of like a pci slot but not really. PCI EXPRESS Speed:16x
